Pumpkin Carving 101

Sunday night we had some father/son bonding around here. Joe and Jack carved pumpkins and I hovered around making sure Jack didn't accidentally cut himself.

Jack got ready by sitting amongst the pumpkins and trying to convince us that he should have the bigger one:

Here he's giving Joe some pointers:

And peeking in to make sure Joe got out all the seeds:

(By the way, that is not a knife in his hand. It's the sheath to Joe's fishing knife. He was obsessed with it.)

Then they really got down to business, and I swear Jack was trying to learn how to carve a pumpkin:

And if you look very closely at this picture, you can see Joe's name on his knife.

Here is the first shot of Jack's pumpkin. We decided his should have a grumpy face since his current nickname is Grumpus T. McGrumpy, due to a large amount of molars trying to poke through is poor little mouth:

And, of course, the finished grumpy pumpkin and the little grumpy owner:

Once his was done, he was more interested in the seeds and guck from the middle:

In this picture you can see his method of pointing. For some reason he's started making his fingers into a little pincer and pointing things out. Like the fact that those seeds are slimy:

I like this picture because you can see the motion. I didn't use a flash so it's a bit blurry:

Later that evening we lit them up and put our little munchkin on the porch. (See Joe on the far right trying to get Jack to smile?)

And here is a closer shot:

Jack seemed amazed by the transformation from normal pumpkin to scary jack-o-lantern:

And then he was off to bed!

Comments:
Joe looks like Edward Scissorhands in the action shot!

Very scary jack-o-lanterns! Your home will be completely safe from evil spirits.
