Power Outage

Yesterday afternoon Jack and I were headed home from Grandma Sandee’s house and we had to stop and buy tortillas for dinner. I got to the Safeway down the street from our house, opened the door, and here is what I found.

car sleeping

I got back in the driver’s seat. No way was I going to yank that kid out of the back and drag him through the grocery store. Luckily he woke up on his own accord, and we were able to complete the errand. Otherwise I probably would have just driven around until he was done napping.

We had a storm last night that was amazing. Thunder, lighting, and sheets of rain for hours and hours. Here you can see Joseph carrying the pinscher back into the house:

Right after we finished dinner the power went out. Luckily it was pretty cool from the rain so we weren’t immediately worried about the heat. We figured it would come back on soon and we shouldn’t worry. The worst part is that Jack dresses as though it is winter when he sleeps. I realized that between the air conditioner, the ceiling fan and the humidifier he was getting a little cold at night. So here you can get an idea of how he is dressed for bed:

Unfortunately hours passed and the electricity remained out. Jack woke at 12:30 and was clearly confused by the sauna that his room had come to resemble. I tried to strip him down to just a diaper and put him back to sleep, but it was not going to happen. So I loaded him up in the car at 1:15 a.m. and drove off to my parent’s house in North Scottsdale where they had power and air conditioning. Of course the power came on just as I was pulling up (which was fortunate for poor Joseph, stuck at home in the heat), but we stayed there and went to bed.

Despite the interruption in his sleep, Jack was bright eyed and ready for the day at 5:30. I was not so ready – I could hardly keep my eyes open. Everyone had a rough day from the lack of sleep, and now he’s back in bed, hopefully for the night. And I just ordered Chinese Take-out. No cooking for us.
