My Little Water Baby

Jack seems to have gotten suddenly popular. Ten comments yesterday, 2 by people I’ve never heard from before. So welcome Ruben and Spencer to the Jack blog, and hi to the rest of you. Of course I had a misspelling yesterday – I meant to say Ferberize instead of Feberize. Dr. Ferber has a very detailed plan for letting the baby cry himself to sleep. This very detailed plan does not work one iota on our blessed boy.

Hi to Natala! I am never sure if you’re still reading so it’s good to have you stop by. We are coming to Seattle in September on our way to a 3 day cruise. I’ll send you the dates in email so hopefully we can have lunch or something.

And now what we’ve all been waiting for – swimming pictures! There are more on my flickr page, but here are a few shots:

Jack sat with Grandma eyeing the pool beforehand. Yesterday he was completely fine with the whole swimming thing. Today he was not so sure about it.

He spent the first 15 minutes or so clinging on to me for dear life.

He started to relax a little with our new activity – jumping in! They had us put him up on the side, count to three and pull them in the water. Here he is preparing to leap:

He also liked to sit on the steps:

and stand on the side:

By the end he was much more relaxed and even started kicking on his own:

The best news is, he came home and has been napping for the past 2 hours. This time I was smart and took a little nap myself – being in the pool is tiring.

Comments:
He is SO cute! And I love the hat!

I have been telling everyone in New York (co-workers, strangers, homeless, political figures, cops, wall street tycoons, out-of-work actors) about your new let him cry strategy, and EVERYONE to a person says you're on the right track.

So, in addition to the unsolicited baby advice you've received thus far, you now have the full support of the entire population of Manhattan in your quest for a full night's sleep.

I'm glad Manhattan agrees. Maybe some of these friends of yours want to come over and listen to him cry for a while. I personally would rather eat glass, but such is life I suppose.

My cousin recommends ear plugs. Of course I'm still thinking you need a big tank to toss him in from time to time to wear him out.
