NOW I get it.....
While singing Clementine to Jack for the 80 millionth time this week, I realized a very important fact. The song is sung from the viewpoint of her boyfriend, not her father. I only just figured this out, 30 some-odd years after the fact. I always thought her father was the one who didn't jump in the water after her, and that he forgot all about her by kissing her little sister. Well, it makes a whole lot more sense now. I remember feeling horrible for poor little Clementine, forgotten by her father, left to die in the foaming brine. What a relief.
Thank to you to "anonymous" (same person as the last anonymous?), for directing me to askdrsears.com. I have his Baby Book, but didn't realize there was a website as well. I am doing all the attachment parenting steps and making sure to establish a good sleeping environment, but the child cannot put himself back to sleep on his own. Last night we tried the humidifier (really the only thing left on the list I hadn't yet tried), and it didn't change anything.
Here he is this morning, trying to learn how to go to sleep by himself:

He was tired when I put him in there, but he could not go to sleep alone. It's like he has too much energy that needs to be contained. Maybe a straight jacket? He kicks himself out of the blanket, and if I swaddle his arms inside he screams.
He had another bath yesterday. Don't you think he's looking older?

I wish the red bumps on his face would go away – they extend all the way into his hair. We don't go back to the doctor for a few weeks, so I'll just keep putting lotion on him and hoping some day they get better.
Joe will be home this afternoon and is taking the entire weekend off. He won his trial yesterday and decided he needed a break. Jack is going for a visit to Grandma Gloria's house as well, so hopefully I will get some rest this weekend.
